Hey all,
Let's talk about live rodent release once it's successfully trapped.
Before even using the rodent traps, understand how it functions.
By that I meant - see how to open it, close it, set it up etc
Most catch and release trap mechanisms works the same - it could only vary between the plastic and metal choice ( see here )
So, releasing the rodent humanely is the final step in the process. Follow these guidelines to ensure the live animal ( rodent ) survives and stays away from your home.

Safety First
Always wear thick gloves ( see here ) when handling the trap. Even live rodents can bite or scratch to defend themselves. Long sleeves and closed-toe shoes provide extra protection against accidental exposure. Never touch the animal directly with your bare hands.
Choosing the Right Location
Select a release spot at least two miles from your home. This distance prevents the rodent from finding its way back inside. Choose an area with natural cover like tall grass, bushes, or brush piles. This provides shelter from predators like hawks or owls. Avoid releasing them near busy roads or neighbours houses or private land as it is against the law.
If not sure contact your local council authority.
The Release Process
Travel to your chosen location before nightfall. This gives the rodent time to find a hiding spot before dark. Place the trap gently on the ground with the exit facing away from you. Open the mechanism slowly and step back immediately. Give the animal plenty of space to emerge on its own terms. Do not force or shake the trap to make it leave.
After the Release
Wait a few moments to ensure the rodent has left safely. Once the trap is empty, check that it is completely clear ( if tinted - like these ). You should sanitize the trap thoroughly before storing it or using it again. Use a professional disinfectant ( see here ) or hot, soapy water to remove any lingering scents. This helps reduce the risk of spreading bacteria or parasites. Store it, lend it to family / friends or use again if needed.
Humane Rat and Mouse traps is a kind and effective way to handle rodent issues. With careful planning, you can release the animal without incident. Thank you for choosing a non-lethal method of control.
